CSG June 2024 speaker:James Wood

How storytelling connects to safety

Presentation by: James Wood , Director, CNB Safe

CSG event video now available (members only)

James Wood (‘Woody’) had a job he loved and a great future as a diesel mechanic on mine sites. That was lost in a split second with an accident that left him in a wheelchair. Now he works hard to keep others safe.

On 11 June Woody shared with CSG his special insights and experience on how to get the safety message across from the workshop floor to the Board room.

This knowledge comes from visiting countless work sites, companies, and organisations, talking to them about the real impact of workplace injury.

He has travelled the country for the past 25 years, educating workers, management teams and employers with his special message about safety, drawing on his experience as a workplace accident victim. He has a popular “Woody’s words” short weekly video (https://cnbsafe.com.au/woodys-words/). He has also written a book "It Fkn Hurts – 12 reasons not to get hurt at work".

Challenging mainstream OHS views
We can always count on Kevin Jones to broaden our horizons via new books and publications on a range of topics. His presentation to Central Safety Group on Tuesday 10 June 2025 will be no exception.
Kevin's discussion will include publications that are not directly related to OHS, but provide valuable insights that can stimulate an OHS professional's thinking about their approach to OHS.
By challenging mainstream views on topics such as leadership, Kevin aims to inspire discussion and widen our knowledge of important topics.
Kevin's overview will include topics directly related to OHS as well, such as a recent study about employee well-being and mental health.
The presentation will be followed by a question and discussion session.
